Harry Potter

I just got back from seeing the most recent movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." It was good. The best one of the bunch so far. The characters were developed a whole heck of a lot better in this one. It seems like the director for #5 is a bigger fan of the story than the previous ones have been. However, the special effects were a little lacking when compared to movies like "Lord of the Rings" and "The Chronicles of Narnia." No one does movies better than WETA. On the whole, I give "Order of the Phoenix" a A-.

With the release of the final book coming out tomorrow, I got to thinking about the series as a whole. I read books 1-5, but seem to have lost interest soon after that. Whereas with the Lord of the Rings series, I read the whole thing front to back and have re-read a significant amount. It just seems that for some reason, Potter is not quite as captivating.

However, you can't argue that the books have created a sort of revival among young kids when it comes to reading. The series has sold over 325 million copies worldwide (an unbelievable number for a book). Author, JK Rowling, is Britain's richest woman and the world's first billionaire author. It's definitely a hit and a permanent part of our culture.

What do you think of the Potter franchise? Good, bad, irrelevant?
What book or series of fiction do you find yourself reading over and over again?

You know what we should do? We should all get together at a church and boycott these Harry Potter books. That way we will send a message to the demonic world influences. We will destroy the popularity of this evil plot to ruin our children.

Who's with me?

(For some reason I fel the need to explain that I'm kidding, but surely everyone could figure that out).

I got the HP book this morning. I'm a fan. But, I'm not a fan of young kids reading the Potter books. It's a personal parenting decision, but mine won't read them until I think they're ready. I know my girls have big imaginations and some stuff in there would bother them right now. I don't usually read books more than once, but the Cronicles of Narnia are an exception.

Im a huge... nay HUGE... fan of Harry Potter. Ive read all the books multiple times and I love everyone of them. Im so sad that the series is over. By the way you stopped reading right before alot of the questions start getting answered. You should pick it back up again.
