Question

Here's something that has me puzzled...
As believers, what is our proper response to sin with regards to prayer? How are we to present ourselves before God when a blatant, intentional sin has occured? Do we openly confess it and ask for grace and mercy? Or, as a heard quite a few times, do we just claim our new life in Christ and thank God for already forgiving that sin and all future ones we will commit? Or is it a little of both?
I'm convinced that there is a definite answer to this question, so let me know what you guys think.

I believe that we confess to God that we know we have sinned. Confession is different than asking for forgiveness. Confession is agreeing that we still sin and are in need of being conformed into the image and likeness of Christ. I believe that His grace and mercy was given to us when we believed on Christ. At the point of salvation, we were justified--declared as righteous. After that we are being sanctified--becoming like Christ. One day we will be glorified--when we are restored to the person God intended us to be before sin entered the world.

I think there are two extremes that people can go towards when they realize the excessive grace of Christ. Some may become so enthrawled with the Grace of God that he/she keeps thinking about how much God loves him/her and doesn't ever let His grace flow through them to others. The other side of the pendullum is that others live like hell knowing God will forgive them.
