Woo Hoo!
When I got to FBC Lufkin in May, I met this one student by the name of Wayne Ramsey. Wayne and I got along pretty well, and I immediately thought, "Hey, this is a cool kid. I really hope I get to know him a little better over the summer." A few weeks later, I met a woman in her mid-fifties scooting her way down the aisle after Sunday morning service with a oxygen tank trailing right behind her. We shook hands and said "hi" to one another. I then watched her walk up to Wayne and give him a hug. A day or two later, I found out that this was his mom.
So...after asking around, I found out what the deal was with that little oxygen tank she wheeled around behind her. A few years ago, Cindy (Wayne's mom) was diagnosed with lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LMA for short). This is a very rare disease that only affects about 850 women in the United States. Cindy is one of the oldest known patients, and her disease was pretty advanced once it was diagnosed. They quickly placed her on the national waiting list for a double lung transplant. Fast-forward sixteen months...
When I found out about her need for a lung transplant and that she was Wayne's mom, I quickly decided that this was one of the things I would be asking God to do before I left for the new school year. I've been praying about it and bugging Clay every few days as to whether or not there was any news on the potential transplant.
Tonight, we were standing in the game room at FBC Lufkin hanging out with some young guys after Man Night. I'm just scanning the room thinking about how much I love my job when I see Wayne on his cell phone with a strange look on his face. He pulled the phone away from the ear, grinned just a little, and said, "My mom's on her way to get a lung transplant right now."
I freaked out! I wanted to cry, jump up and down, and hug the kid all at once.
After a few minutes of praying together and shaking our heads in disbelief, Clay and I looked at each other and decided we would head to Houston to be with Wayne, Cindy, and Mike (his dad).
So, right now I'm sitting in the ICU waiting room of The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. It's 5:15 AM and the surgery still hasn't started yet. They say it will take anywhere from 4-7 hours. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
God is unbelievable!!! Please pray for the Ramsey's (especially Cindy) and the family of the young twenty year-old man from Houston who has given Cindy the chance at new life.
